It is believed that man is born of body, soul, and spirit. Mr. Mathis has a way of incorporating these three into creating a character that transcends the bounds of what's etched into the sheet music. Not only that, he also unlocks the character and integrity that resides in his students. He has a way of seeing the inside of you. The parts of you that have been suppressed or damaged by the ways of life and he begins to minister to them and heal from the inside. Whether through what seems to be a silly body exercise, a random joke or even a straw, he creates an atmosphere that goes beyond the limitations of the mind and music.
He has many techniques and activities that he utilizes in aiding his students, but the one I would highlight as the most important is love. Love for his craft. For the music. For the words. For the person. Through this, he has enabled me personally to be free to love and to be loved. To live and to let live. To not only create, but to cultivate. Mr. Mathis extends his grace, care, and knowledge far after the session has ended, the bill is paid, the audition has been done, and even far after the show closes. He is a man of such valor and integrity that even through his own troubles, he stays true to his beliefs and his passion for helping others with such fullness and dedication that it inspires you to live life the same.
I'm not sure of the qualifications that you all are looking for in a candidate, but I can truly say Carver Mathis goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is a mentor, a teacher, a friend, and a lover of all. Thank you.
